This small, 10 degree range from summer to winter, makes the weather in Jamaica ideal for a winter vacation. (For us in the Northern Hemisphere that is!) Tourist season in Jamaica typically begins in December and lasts through until April, with the holidays of Christmas, New Years and Easter being the heaviest bookings. These popular times for tourists (and therefore the most expensive and more difficult to book!) include some of the famous Jamaican Festivals. "Carnival" follows Easter and "Junkaroo" is the traditional Christmas Festival. Rainfall is a little bit more unpredictable. The Average rainfall is about 51 inches per year and most falls in either October/November or May/June although the total is spread throughout the year. Most months of the year experience a shower or two on 40% of their days: about 12 days a month get a shower! But when it comes to rainfall, Jamaican weather will depend more on location. Because the prevailing winds are from the south-west, the south-west corner of the island is relatively arid. As the air is forced up over the central Blue Mountains, temperatures drop, and rain falls so that the north-east coast has the heavier rain and the mountains the cooler temperatures. Temperatures in the mountains can drop as much as 40 degrees F (4 degrees C) over-night! Mountain weather can also see damp mist and an increase in rain, which of course leads to a tropical vegetation. Weather in Jamaica for most of the beach resorts is a balmy 80 degrees, with a slight cooling at night. A few days will have short, sharp, heavy showers followed quickly by bright sun. What more could you want from a tropical, beach front vacation? ------------------------------------------------------------ Below are the Jamaica Weather forecasts for three major tourist centres.
