Travel Montego Bay

Jamaica Travel Montego Bay

Montego Bay might be a relatively small city, but it offers a large number of things to see and do during your Jamaica vacation.  In fact, Travel Montego Bay has enough to satisfy any Caribbean traveler.

Locally called MoBay, Montego Bay would probably be considered the tourist capital of Jamaica.  Although you'll find more tourists here than anywhere else on the island, parts of Montego Bay remain relatively secluded.

The entire island is a Caribbean paradise, but Montego Bay seems to bring out the romance in many vacationers.  Maybe it's the name, which sounds a whole lot more romantic than Kingston, the country's capital.  No matter why, though, couples by the planeload head to Montego Bay for their weddings, their honeymoons and romantic getaways.

Of course the famous beaches always beckon, but other portions of Montego Bay also offer plenty for people of all ages and backgrounds.  Younger travelers can spend their days learning extreme water sports and their nights in Pier 1 and other vibrant nightclubs, while older people might prefer a relaxing rafting expedition or taking in the sights at an 18th-century home before enjoying a delicious meal at one of Montego Bay's local restaurants.

Whatever your preference, you'll probably find it: Travel Montego Bay because offers something for everyone.

Mo Bay Jamaica

Couples aren't the only people heading to MoBay.  One reason Montego Bay has so many tourists is that serves as the gateway for more arriving flights and cruise ships than any other place in Jamaica.

Most travelers arrive on the island at Montego Bay's North Shore airport or the island's busiest cruise ship pier, and the town is doing a fine job of convincing them to stay in Montego Bay instead of going on to Ocho Rios, Kingston or somewhere else on the island.

Montego Bay, located at the island's northwest corner, is Jamaica's second- largest city and its original tourist hot spot.  It offers a number of tourist attractions, including several plantation tours.

More adventurous travelers can embark on a guided or self-guided rafting experience which can involve drifting down a peaceful river or cutting your way through some whitewater rapids.  And, charter boats always stand ready to take out avid anglers or visitors who want to try their hand at some exotic spear fishing.

In addition to its many other attractions, the area offers a wide selection of Jamaican golf courses for players of all skill levels.  Cycling, horseback riding and scuba diving are always popular activities, and the new Bob Marley Experience features a huge memorabilia shop and a documentary film that will appeal to any fan of the world's most famous reggae musician.

Montego Bay Shops Jamaica

Whether you're a shop-a-holic or you just want to bring back some treasure from Jamaica, Montego Bay's shopping areas are ready.  They include The Half Moon Shopping Village, the Holiday Village Shopping Centre and of course the shops in the City Centre.

Shops near the airport also offer tourist items for sale, but you might do better in the city because that's where you'll be more likely to find items made by local craftsmen instead of mass-produced goods.

You can also go to the hills above Reading and visit the Lester Art Gallery, either on its own or combined with some other local places of interest.  The Gallery displays the work of the late Michael Lesczynski (who Anglicized his name to Lester), a Polish sea captain who was also a notable painter.

The Gallery's cliff side site is Lester's former home and studio, and it offers stunning views.  In addition, the Rocklands Bird Sanctuary and Mountain Valley River Rafting are nearby.

As you can see, Montego Bay offers enough to keep you busy during your entire Jamaica vacation. Travel Montego Bay sometime soon!
