Kingston Jamaica
...the tropical island capital!



Kingston Jamaica is the capital of the island of Jamaica and also its largest city.

Kingston, capital of Jamaica is located on the south eastern corner of the island country and it faces a natural harbor protected by the Palisadoes. Port Royal and the Norman Manley International Airport are connected by this long sand spit to the rest of the island.

Kingston Jamaica is the largest predominantly English speaking city to the south of the United States. Stars like Buju Banton, Sean Paul, Bounty Killer, and Beenie Man, come from Kingston.

The city has two airports, the larger Norman Manley International Airport and the smaller and primarily domestic Tinson Pen Airport. Kingston Jamaica is the commercial and cultural hub of the island. Many industries including tourism, textiles, petroleum products, and clothing flourish here. Agricultural goods such as sugar, bananas, coffee, rum, and molasses are the major exports of the region.

Things to do in Kingston Jamaica



Kingston has many tourist attractions and festivals going on at various times of the year. There are many popular tourist spots here like the Hellshire and Lime Cay beaches, the National Gallery of Jamaica, the ruins of Port Royal, and Devon House.

Red Stripe band, Kingston, Jamaica Devon House is a huge mansion with an adjoining park that once belonged to Jamaica's first black millionaire. Apart from these general tourist attractions there are several annual festivals held in Kingston.

Other tourist attractions here are the Bob Marley Museum, Emancipation Park, New Kingston, Hope Botanical Gardens, Institute of Jamaica, Jamaica Conference Centre (a United Nations organization), Jamaica House, King's House, Kingston and Saint Andrew Parish Library, Kingston Craft Market, Kingston Parish Church and Liberty Hall office of the United Negro Improvement Association. There is also the Little Theatre, the National Gallery of Jamaica,the National Library of Jamaica and the University of the West Indies and Ward Theatre.

The climatic conditions here are humid and the main rainfall is from May onwards continuing till December, with heavy rainfall during the months of August and September. So you can indulge in all kinds of water sports and activities.

A favorite snack amongst the tourists here is a bottle of ‘bigga’ or flavored soda along with a juicy patty. People generally are very friendly and there are several towns like Spanish Town and Port Royal which the visitors can explore to enjoy the real beauty of this lovely region.

The food here is reasonable but very tasty and the local specialties should not be missed. The jerk pans selling rice and chicken are exceptionally good so is the Red Stripe and Appleton Rum. The spicy Escoveitch fish and local delicacies are often available on the road side cafes.

The Holiday Inn Waterfront and Radisson Harbor front are popular four star hotels. There are plenty of other resorts and hotels available for various budgets.
