Jamaican Bob Marley, Nine Mile Experience in Jamaica, is a 'must see'!  

If you're a fan of Bob Marley or Reggae music, Nine Mile is a place you absolutely have to visit.  This quaint village in Jamaica is the birthplace of Bob Marley and a must-see during any fan's vacation on the island.


The community helped shape the life and career of one of the world's most well-known musicians.  When you're visiting beautiful Ocho Rios and enjoying the sun, sand, water sports and nightlife that town offers, make sure you make time for a side trip to the Bob Marley Nine Mile. 

After all, it's only about a 90-minute drive from Ocho Rios.  A visit there will give you a real sense of what Marley was all about, even if you're not a big fan of his music.

A small village, Nine Mile is nestled among Jamaica's magnificent mountains of St. Ann and is not only Marley's birthplace but also where he was laid to rest in 1981.  

Marley's fans say visiting Nine Mile is an experience that lets them learn more about the musician's roots, better understand the significance of his lyrics, and enjoy a renewed sense of the truly important things in life.  

The legend that became Bob Marley began in a small house in Nine Mile.  Members of Marley's family still live there, including his mother (called "Mother B") and his Uncle Lloyd.(as of 2008) 

You'll see photos of Bob Marley everywhere when you visit the house.  While you're there, your guide, Marley's Uncle Lloyd and/or Mother B will probably tell you stories about Marley's childhood and his early career in music.  

Mount Zion Rock, known for being the spot where Marley meditated, the Fireside where Marley frequently cooked, and Marley's mausoleum are also in Nine Mile.  Visitors should spend some time at all of these locations.  

You can take a guided tour of the community if you don't want to go through Nine Mile on your own.  Your guide will be an authentic Rastafarian who's even dressed in real Rastafarian clothing! 

He will take you from one important section of the village to the next, and he'll make sure you don't miss anything significant.  These guided tours are a fabulous way to make sure you experience everything possible in the King of Reggae's home village.
