Jamaica, offering a wide assortment of different types of beaches, is one of the destinations you should definitely consider. Whatever you want in a beach vacation, Jamaica can provide it: you just need to know what you want and where to find it. This beautiful island has white sandy beaches with crowds of people, an active social scene and deep azure waters, but it also has rugged, craggy beaches that are great if you don't want to be amidst throngs of people. Doctor's Cave Beach, located in Montego Bay, is a typical example of one of Jamaica's classic Caribbean vacation beaches. About five miles long, this beach is covered with a fine white sand that edges up against clear, cool waters. It's very popular, so it will probably be crowded. Cornwell Beach, also part of Montego Bay, is another fine example that's known for its lovely, white sand. Negril, on the other hand, is an example of one of Jamaica's more rugged beaches. The craggy cliffs, unspoiled natural beauty and solitude, Negril offers makes it a favorite with naturalists from throughout the world. Crane Beach, near Black River, is also known for its unspoiled surroundings. Jamaica also features several beaches that are perfect for families with young children. These beaches are known for having gentle waters that lack the undertows and other strong currents you might encounter in other areas, making ocean swimming more inviting and safer for children. Walter Fletcher Beach in Montego Bay, Blue Lagoon Beach and San San Beach, both in Port Antonio, and Dunn's River Beach in Ocho Rios, not too distant from the famous waterfall, are some of Jamaica's best family beaches. Surfers might want to consider Boston Beach, where surfing equipment can easily be rented. The most consistent waves in Jamaica are found at the beaches of Long Bay. Adventurous surfers will enjoy Treasure Beach, but be careful because of its strong undercurrents. The beach at Port Antonio's Frenchman's Cove might be ideal for those seeking beaches that combine the fun of sun, sand and surf with an active social or party scene. Seven Mile Beach in Negril is also a favorite. With its 200 miles of beaches, Jamaica truly is a lovely island. Whether you're looking for a beach with peaceful, natural surroundings, the pristine sugary-white sands and pampering you'll find at the resorts, beaches perfect for water sports, or an active beach party scene, you'll find it on Jamaica. This gorgeous island has beaches to suit almost any taste, so with a little planning you can choose the right one for you. Take a look at all your options, and then choose wisely.
