Exmouth Beach, North Devon, U.K.

by Brian
(Letchworth, U.K.)

This has always been my favorite beach, for two reasons.

The (what was to us centre of London, city boys,) vast expanse of soft, windswept miles, dotted with sand tufted dunes, and the memories of early teenage years.

This was one of the first beach areas I ever experienced and being from the centre of post-war London, the experience was one of freedom, almost like an explorer experiencing new lands.

Exmouth is on the North coast of Devon and not very far from what has now become a wind sufers paradise, but in the days following the war it was an escape to another world. Soft windswept dunes for harsh post war London Streets.

My favorite beach, and a favorite, childhood memory.
(If anyone has a picture, I would love to see it again!)
