Cuba Vacations

Step Back in Time by Taking a Vacation in Cuba!

Cuba vacations provide a relaxing yet fascinating step back in time. This is one Caribbean island that remains unspoiled by modern life and its ever-present technology.

Cuba's magnificent natural beauty, its spicy mixture of cultures and its colorful, intriguing history are present wherever you look. Together, they have made the country what it is today.

Escaping to an exotic location and leaving life's daily stresses behind can be a truly delightful experience. Due to its form of government and the American embargo on Cuban exports and tourism, Cuba is known more for its cigars and political leader than as a vacation spot.

However, the number of Europeans and Canadians vacationing in Cuba is increasing every year, and tourism in Cuba is currently at an all-time high.

So, what's the reason for Cuba's popularity as a vacation destination? Its natural beauty and its passionate, welcoming people.

Cuba is the largest of the Caribbean islands. Its population includes a mixture of indigenous Indians and people of Spanish and African heritage. As a result, while you're on this Caribbean pearl, you'll be immersed in a rich melange of varied ethnic cultures. Cuba's landscape is rich with contrasts and ranges from stunning sugar-white beaches to lofty, craggy mountains. This is a place where limestone mountains loom over verdant tobacco fields, providing spectacular panoramas.

As with many Caribbean islands, Cuba's primary tourist draw is its wealth of beaches. In fact, the country features hundreds of miles of beaches boasting fine white sand and clear azure waters, so visitors who want a beach vacation have an extensive selection to choose from.

The most famous are the major resorts of Cayo Largo and Varadero, where you'll find many 5-star all-inclusive beach resorts. If, however, you'd rather get away from it all, Cuba also offers many smaller, quieter beach resorts.

In addition to spectacular beaches, the country features towns and cities with an abundance of local color and culture. A trip to Cuba simply isn't complete unless you visit at least one Cuban town or city and actually meet the local people.

Havana, the country's capital and the hub of everything Cuban, is in the northwest. A slow stroll past the city's Spanish colonial architecture will help you understand the rich history emanating from those buildings. Other parts of Havana resemble an old movie set and feature plentiful reminders of a bygone era, including old American cars bustling down the streets. In the last ten years, Havana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has experienced extensive restoration.

Unfortunately, large portions of the city still remain untouched, and hundreds of old buildings collapse every month. The capital also boasts a variety of intriguing museums, including the Cigar Museum, the Havana Club Museum of Rum, the Museum of the Revolution, the National Museum of Fine Arts and the Ernest Hemingway Museum.

The country's second largest city is Santiago de Cuba, located on the island's eastern end. The city's spectacular setting overlooks a magnificent bay at the foot of the Sierra Maestra Mountains. In contrast with Cuba's other towns and cities, Santiago de Cuba is infused with a strong Caribbean character, the legacy of the Haitian planters who settled there in the 19th century.

Santiago, founded in 1514 and one of Cuba's first European settlements, is located deep within the heart of the island. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988, Santiago is full of cobblestone streets and colonial-era buildings with tiled roofs. Its many museums, churches and plazas make Santiago de Cuba a pleasant stop for a day or two.

Spending a few days sightseeing in Havana or one of Cuba's other cities, then relaxing for a week or so at one of the country's luxurious all-inclusive beach resorts, can be an ideal way to spend your Cuban vacation. If you're able, start planning your Cuba vacation today.

Cuba Vacations-somethings you don't forget.

{It should be noted that at this time..2010..visitors with U.S. passports are not admitted into Cuba. Editor]
