Climate For Jamaica

Understand the Climate For Jamaica.

You could be getting ready to go on vacation to Jamaica or you could be looking at taking a big business trip and you will want to know the climate for Jamaica.

Since you are going to be so far away from home, it is always a good idea to make sure that you know not only what the typical weather is like for the season that you will be traveling in but also what the current forecast is saying for the amount of time that you will be in Jamaica.

The climate for Jamaica is something that everyone assumes is always going to be dry and very hot, but that is not the case at all.

It is true that for the most part, it is a tropical climate that experiences very few changes and there are certainly no seasonal variations such as fall leaves or snow on the ground.

The largest city and also the capital of the island is Kingston and it happens to lie on one of the driest parts of the island so rainfall is very intermittent. Whenever there is a rain, it does not last long and it is always followed by lots of sunshine.

There is a rainy season to consider when you are looking into the climate for Jamaica. This would fall between the months of May and June and then later again between October and November.

Sometimes, although it is rare, the rainy season can stretch into December so that is something that you want to make sure that you are prepared for.

The hurricane and tropical storm climate for Jamaica falls between July and November so you will want to take this into consideration when you are booking your vacation.

So, what does all of this mean when you are trying to figure out what to pack for yourself and for your family for the vacation of a lifetime? It means that you want to pack a lot of lightweight cottons and also some informal linens. For the evening wear, light woolens would be wise and a cap or a bonnet that is waterproof would be a good idea if you think you will be staying during the rainy climate for Jamaica.

Historic Weather

One thing that Jamaican residents also try to prepare for is an earthquake and this is something that you too will need to take into account, although extremely rare, if you plan to visit the island.

Back in 1692, a historic earthquake hit the island on June 7. Port Royal had landslides, which created a tsunami, which in turn destroyed about 90% of the buildings within the Port Royal City.( which was the Capital of Jamaica and a very busy Port at that time!) There were roughly 2,000 people killed from this earthquake and the tsunami that came with it.

As you can see, while the climate for Jamaica is mostly calm and peaceful, with a warm Caribbean 80 degrees heat, there have been times in history where nature has been brutal.

Make sure that you are doing your research and making yourself well prepared for the climate for Jamaica so that you can make the most out of your adventure.
